Being held from 26 to 28 Oct. at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, attendees can expect relevant and compelling presentations and panels featuring both local and international healthcare professionals, as well as exhibitors from healthcare-related organisations and various charities. Health City Cayman Islands is the major sponsor of the event for the fifth year, and there is also a variety of other sponsors from various sectors of the community, including healthcare, small business enterprises, caregivers, human resources, insurance, fitness and wellness, and the general public. This is our opportunity to exchange views on the latest trends and challenges – thank you to our distinguished local and international speakers who have come together to share their experiences as we all strive to create a healthier world in every respect. This year’s theme, “Bridging the Gap Between Patient and Practitioner; Pathways to Optimal Health” will enable us to explore and create new systems to manage information and community health in the future. The Internet offers unlimited access to medical information and self-diagnosing assessments, which means that as patients, we are more invested in and informed about our health. AI adds another layer – have you ever used a chatbot to evaluate your symptoms? This can be both helpful and a challenge for our healthcare providers as they try to do their jobs while competing with Dr. Google or WebMd. We want to make sure that we are keeping up with the technology rather than chasing after it. I think we would all agree that the internet is no substitute for the relationships we have with our personal physicians at the clinic, the pharmacy or the hospital. So, the conference will also discuss how communication and systems are evolving to offer the best service to the population, with an ongoing focus on preventative action and lifelong healthy living. It was Winston Churchill who once said, “Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have.” – We are all on a journey to ensure that everyone in Cayman has access to the information they need to provide for both their physical and mental well-being. Today, I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Ministry of Health, the Chief Medical Officer, the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority, the organising committee and all other healthcare stakeholders for the work you all do throughout the public and private sectors to consistently improve our services and to increase the provision of on-island treatment, managing our growing population and offering regional support to others. The next three days promise to be both informative and inspiring. I encourage you all to use the wealth of knowledge that will be offered to find new ways to enhance the patient-doctor relationships in your lives. Pathways to optimal health can only be achieved when both parties are clear on their desired results and the ways to achieve them. I wish you all the best of luck as you navigate these vital collaborations.
